NFL Draft Round 1 - quick, useless thoughts
Everyone has grades for every single pick in the NFL Draft, so we might as well throw our stupidity into the ring. We know you can't really judge a pick for a few years, but here are some quick thoughts

8 ATL Michael Penix QB
Shocker of the day, how long until he takes over for Kirk Cousins?
9 CHI Rome Odunze WR
A huge addition to an already powerful offense, but how much playing time will he get?
10 MIN J.J. McCarthy QB

12 DEN Bo Nix QB
When Sean Payton likes a QB, he goes and gets him, they did a ton of work privately to get this pick ready

Might be the best player in the draft, a complete stud that will give whoever the QB is a huge weapon that can break a short pass for a long gain
14 NOR Taliese Fuaga OL
A big, big lineman that will help that line that struggled last season, will be part of that line for a long time
15 IND Laiatu Latu DL
Injury concerns, but one of the best pash rushers in the draft, if healthy will be a steal

Could be the best pass rusher in the draft? Go get the QB, stop the run on the way
18 CIN Amarius Mims OL
A nice addition to that Cincy line, will hopefully be a big part of keeping Burrow healthy
19 LAR Jared Verse DL
Finally the Rams pick in the 1st round and they try to fix the void by Aaron Donald. Verse won't do it alone, but he is a good, strong start
20 PIT Troy Fautanu OL
Feels like a Pittsburgh guy, will be nasty and tough and be a nice addition to the line
21 MIA Chop Robinson DE
A very powerful edge rusher, performed at a high level for Penn State
22 PHI Quinyon Mitchell CB
Fast, and faster, a great prospect that will be huge if can adjust to the NFL speed
23 JAX Brian Thomas WR
A nice replacement for what they have lost, will be good and solid, great hands

Always a good idea to keep the young QB safe, a replacement for some older vets and will be a nice cornerstone
26 TAM Graham Barton OL
Big and strong and will make a huge impact on the Bucs line, great in pass blocking
27 ARI Darius Robinson DL
A big fit that helps fill a need, and one that will clog the middle against those running teams of the NFC
28 KAN Xavier Worthy WR
Fastest man in the draft goes to the team that knows how to use speed better than anyone else
29 DAL Tyler Guyton OL
A gigantaic human, a big part of the new Cowboys line, a great pick
30 BAL Nate Wiggins CB
He wanted to go to Baltimore and his skill and size will be a nice addition to that already good secondary
31 SFO Ricky Pearsall WR
Quick, great hands, will be a nice catch and run guy, might be a replacement for a possibly traded star?
32 CAR Xavier Legette WR
A good, solid WR that will help Bryce Young, a nice pick

Report - Deebo Samuel to New England has been discussed
Various media outlets are reporting that the Patriots and 49ers have discussed a possible trade that would send Deebo Samuel to New England.
The 49ers are all over the place with the WRs - they have Brandon Aiyuk that is dominant on the outside, just drafted Ricky Pearsall and that can work inside and of course, have McCaffrey and Kittle and others. Could Samuel be the odd man out?
You would never think that with his production, but there was smoke yesterday about possible trades involving Samuel or Aiyuk, and then the selection of Pearsall, it looks like this could be legit.
The 49ers will ask for the moon, but will they settle on a few picks this year and a couple for next year?
Samuel would be a HUGE addition to New England. They lack playmakers and have a rookie QB to develop.
Will it happen? If it does, it will be tonight.

Guardian caps approved for in-game use
NFL Football Operations have announced that the guardian caps that became a highly discussed part of Training Camp 2023, have been approved to be warn during games in 2024.
There is a great article with Q&A and more info, but this is a big step for those players that have consistent concussions or are worried about taking a big hit.
More to come as we get into Training Camp and beyond, but this was a nice announcement to at least give the players a choice.

The 3 biggest winners from night 1 of the NFL Draft are.....
A run on offensive players, 6 QBs in the first round, not a terrible amount of trades. Night 1 of the NFL Draft was electric.
As with everyone, we are already asking - who did the best?
Here are our Top 3 winners from Day 1 -
3) Arizona
Marvin Harrison Jr is a HUGE addition to their offense. This gives Kyler Murray an immediate Pro Bowl caliber receiver than can truly change the game. Murray has had a problem holding on to the ball to long, and when he does now, Harrison should be there breaking open. A game changing addition to the Cardinals offense.
2) Minnesota
JJ McCarthy will be their immediate Franchise QB. He is a winner, can move, can spin it and will give Jefferson and that offense a huge shot in the arm. There will be bumps - Michigan was a run-first team, but he has all the skills and talent to be a complete stud.
The Vikings traded back into the 1st round to grab OLB Dallas Turner from Alabama. Again, a stud. He will be a starter right away and immediately make a huge impact on this team. He can rush the passer and is a freak athlete.
The Vikings did very well to improve their squad right away.
1) Chicago
They got their Franchise QB in Caleb Williams and gave him another young weapon in WR Rome Odunze. A franchise altering round with the hope that Williams will stop the rotation of mediocre QBs and Odunze being a true 1 WR. If both of these picks turn out like they could and should, the Bears will be right in the mix in North starting this year. The Bears have been struggling to find that cornerstone they can build around and have that - finally, with Williams.
Honorable mention -
Commanders - finding their Franchise QB
Raiders - Bowers that low is a steal
Chiefs - of course they drafted the fastest guy in the draft

London Mayor wants to bring Super Bowl to England
In an interesting announcement, and probably wishful thinking, current London Mayer Sadiq Kahn is eying all kinds of big events for London if he is elected to a 3rd term.
In 2005, London secured the bid to host the 2012 Summer Olympics during Ken Livingstone's tenure as mayor. Since 2016, Sadiq Khan has held the mayoral position.
While London has been hosting NFL regular-season games annually since 2007, all 58 Super Bowls have been confined to the United States, spanning 16 different cities.
The forthcoming Super Bowl locations have already been designated. Super Bowl LIX is slated for 2025 in New Orleans, followed by Super Bowl LX in 2026 in Santa Clara, California, and Super Bowl LXI in 2027 in Inglewood, California.
Although London has a history of hosting NBA games since 1993, the city has been without NBA action since 2019.

Washington to retire Number 28 for Darrell Green
In a ceremony that will be long overdue, the Commanders will be retiring the #28 for Darrell Green.
Green will become the fifth player in franchise history to have his number retired, the Commanders announced Thursday, joining Sammy Baugh, Bobby Mitchell, Sonny Jurgensen and Sean Taylor. Green wore No. 28 and played 20 seasons in the NFL -- all with Washington.
"It means a ton to me," Green said. "I never thought about this, never dreamed about it, never asked about it, whatever. But when it was spoken to me, it blew me away. It caught me. It touched something down on the inside of me that I didn't know was there. So now I'm very humbled by this, but this is huge. This is a big deal, and I'm grateful for that. And I'm that guy that played the whole career here, wasn't chasing the money and stuff, and it just kind of, in many ways, it just validated, man, I made the right decision."
Green, who was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2008, his first year of eligibility, owns multiple NFL records, including most games played by a defender (295) and most consecutive seasons with an interception (19). Green, 5-foot-9 and always considered one of the NFL's fastest players during his career, was named an Associated Press All-Pro three times and a Pro Bowler seven times. He played on two Super Bowl championship teams.

Peyton Manning shares thoughts on Zach Wilson
Peyton Manning, one of the greatest to ever do it has thankfully stayed in the pubic eye and we are here for it.
His latest comments are on new Broncos QB - Zach Wilson.
"The best way to really screw a young quarterback up is to change coordinators on him every single year, and it drives me crazy," Manning said about Wilson during an on-air interview on Denver Sports, as shared by Manny Gomez of NJ Advance Media for NJ.com and Andrew Mason of Denver Sports. "Look, I was very fortunate. I had an old-school coach named Tom Moore who was the coordinator the entire time I was there [with the Indianapolis Colts]. Tom Brady had different coordinators. ...But it was the same system, right? (Bill) Belichick said, hey, we’re running the same exact system."
"I think for Zach, I think a reboot actually is good," Manning said. "Let’s just sort of start over, right? And let’s just let Sean Payton and his staff coach you and kind of start from ground zero, which I think might be just what Zach needs."
He's not wrong. The worst thing for any player in inconsistency.
Sounds like he is on board with the reboot for Wilson, and time will tell if it will actually turn around the QB and his career.

Detroit WR St. Brown gets HUGE extension
Stud Lions WR Amon-Ra St. Brown just signed a huge extension with the Lions - 4 years, over $120 Million, $77 Million guaranteed that is into the 3rd year with the guaranteed money.
Well deserved to one of the cornerstones of the Lions rebuild. A huge, nice contract for one of the games young stars.
This sets the market for Aiyuk and Higgins - what will they get?
If you are interested in trading for Aiyuk, you need to know this is the starting point.
What about Jefferson? How high will he go?

Philadelphia Rodgers reinstated from gambling suspension
Isaiah Rodgers Sr is back in the NFL after a year-long suspension for violating the leagues gambling policies.
He was suspended on June 29, released by Indy that day and then signed with Philly in August.
At the time of his suspension, ESPN's David Purdum reported that Rodgers had placed more than 100 bets -- including on Colts games -- and most were in the $25 to $50 range. One wager, in particular, stood out: a $1,000 prop bet on the over/under on rushing yards by Colts running back Jonathan Taylor, which Rodgers won.
"That report is true, with it being $1,000, but that report wasn't made from my device," Rodgers told Barr. "The $25 to $50 bets are exactly true, but it was more crazy-leg parlays with just $25 trying to make a crazy amount. Just funny bets. Nothing too serious. It was never, 'This bet here is going to change my life.'"

Houston releases new uniforms - an upgrade..finally!
The Texans have rolled out new uniforms for the first time in their history.
The look a bit like XFL jerseys, but they are pretty solid.
"Today, for the first time since 2000, we are so proud to reveal our new uniforms. They are even more special because they are inspired by and for our fans," Texans chair and CEO Cal McNair said in a statement. "Our fans asked us to be more H-Town and we delivered. They were with us every step of the way and there's truly something for everyone over the four uniforms."
The Texans revealed the four new looks on Tuesday morning, which included home and away uniforms that had small tweaks to the existing navy and white looks, respectively, along with a Battle Red alternate uniform, complete with a red helmet with a new horn design.
In addition, the Texans added a color rush design paying homage to Houston with the addition of "H-Town Blue" accents, the first new color added since the formation of the team's uniform, and an alternate "H" logo.

Cincy brings back QB Browning on 2-year deal
The Bengals have their Franchise QB in Joe Burrow, but they now have locked up his back up - Jake Browning - to a 2-year deal.
Browning filled in nicely with the Bengals while Burrow was hurt last season and has shown he is more than capable of keeping the squad in games if another Burrow injury occurs.
He played in 9 games, starting 7 (going 4-3) with 12 TDS and 7 INTS.
A nice, solid back up to Burrow.

Harrison Jr to Indy makes sense for everyone except the Colts front office
Marvin Harrison Jr is a Colts legacy..his dad is in the Ring of Honor, he wore the blue shoes to the combine, he has said he thinks highly of the Colts.
The Colts are struggling with playmakers. Richardson is back this year, and they resigned Michael Pittman Jr, but they are struggling to get big, chunk yards.
Harrison Jr would fit that role in a big way. He has been the best college WR for 2 years and has the ability to be a complete stud in the NFL.
But why aren't the Colts jumping at the chance to move up and get him?
Well, they still may. They play their hand close to their chest so this all could be smoke, but it doesn't sound like it.
GM Chris Ballard has stated that getting Harrison Jr would be in a "fantasyland", and that they see so many good players listed as a 1st round grade.
That has trade back and get more picks written all over it - something that Ballard has done in the past. Kill it with numbers rather than 1-2 amazing players.
They have the picks, they have the money - trying to jump to 4,5 or 6 is doable.
Ballard has historically thought 3-4 years down the road. That is responsible, but not quite how everyone else is thinking. The Texans continue to add. As to the Jags and Titans. The Colts are in danger here. If they keep kicking the can of finding help for Richardson down the road, he may be hurt so often he doesn't develop.
Why not throw some future assets out the window and try to get a guy that will not only be a monster on the field, but will be immediately embraced by the fans?
It is a question that Colts fans continue to ask - why don't we ever make moves right now? Why are we thinking so much in the future?
Good question, Ask the Rams if they regret making the moves to win their Super Bowl? The Chiefs aren't afraid to make a move. It is something we hope to see, but I wouldn't count on much except a trade back and a safe pick by Ballard.

Could Jefferson be on the move from Minnesota?
The Vikings front office continue to tell the world they are in love with Justin Jefferson. They know he is their franchise WR and he is on his way to the Hall of Fame.
If that is the case, why aren't they paying him? Why haven't they gotten him the new contract?
He was hurt last year. Ok....if he had a fully guaranteed contract, would he have sat our so long? Who knows.
All signs point to the Vikings resigning Jefferson and giving him the money he wants and deserves. But, there is some thought to what might happen this coming weekend during the draft.
Could they use Jefferson as bait to jump up and get a franchise QB? They could.....
Could they see who they might draft to replace Jefferson in a very heavy WR draft? They could...
But why?
If you somehow jump up to get that rookie QB you need, who is he gonna throw to? Sure, Addison and others are great, but Jefferson is special. He is one you keep and tell the QB - there is your safety net.
The Vikings have really started to make the waters dirty here and if they truly want Jefferson around, this contract needs done today or tomorrow - before the Draft!
If you want to deal him, then fine...but don't be mad when the rookie QB struggles to get the ball to WR that can get open.

If Minnesota is in love with Maye, can they trade up to get him?
Rumors are all over the place this week as the NFL Draft is finally here on Thursday.
Over the weekend, it was shared that the Vikings are IN LOVE with QB Drake Maye from Carolina.
Appearing on "The Ross Tucker Football Postcat," NFL Network and former NFL QB Chase Daniel indicated the Vikings are "in love" with Maye.
Can they trade up to get him? Sure....do they want to? Maybe.
“I do know the Minnesota Vikings absolutely are in love with [Maye],” Daniel said. “I don’t know if they have enough ammo to get up to that third spot where the Patriots are picking, because I do think you’re probably going to have to get to that spot.”
The Vikings have picks 11 and 23 in the 1st round but you would you have to assume they need to get to 3, maybe even 2, to get Maye for sure.
The Commanders at 2 are not budging, and sound like they want Daniels. Patriots at 3 could be interesting. They need a lot, so 2 picks instead of 1 makes sense. But they also need a franchise QB.
These rumors will be loud all week but the fact that teams are not starting to sound attached to players makes this week a fun and crazy time ahead.
My guess - they will need to throw in WR Jefferson to make any sort of deal work....but that will mane the new team has to pay Jefferson.
A lot of moving parts...

Indy owner Irsay continues to recover, won't be in draft war room
A lot of rumors and news came out a few months ago about Colts Owner Jim Irsay and while we don't have a ton of details as to what happened, he is continuing to recover and will not be part of the Colts war room on draft night.
The fact that he is recovering is a vert encouraging sign. He is an amazing owner and true asset to the league.
"The main thing is I'm just following my doctors' orders and just making sure the bottom line is just to get back to 100% and to do the things they say," said Irsay, who has undergone numerous surgeries on his back, hips and extremities from years-old powerlifting injuries. "I'm just being a good patient and trying to make sure I can get back sooner than later. I'll get back on the golf course sooner than later.
"It's going fine. It's just a test of patience."
We won't get into the details, but Irsay was hospitalized in December in Indy.
"I've had some episodes in my past," said Irsay, who also recalled a brush with death during a previous overdose in a November interview with HBO Sports. "It's natural that people's minds can run away and exaggerate."
Since Irsay's most recent surgery, he has managed to stay engaged with team business, he said. And he will do so throughout the draft, too.
"I don't really see it as any different for the draft," said Irsay, who will be virtually connected to general manager Chris Ballard, coach Shane Steichen and others during the draft. "We defer to Chris in the end. ... I've always kind of sat back and watched."
Will they move up to get a WR? We will see, but knowing the Colts, we expect a trade back as they has historically done.

Kansas City extends contracts of President, GM and Head Coach
From the Chiefs -
Kansas City Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt announced today that the club has agreed to contract extensions with President Mark Donovan, General Manager Brett Veach and Head Coach Andy Reid. The agreements ensure the leadership team of the Chiefs will remain in place for the long-term future.
"Mark, Brett and Andy have achieved historic success together, and we are thrilled that they will continue in their roles for many years to come," Hunt said. "Individually, Mark, Brett and Andy each represent the best in the National Football League at their respective positions, and together, they make up one of the finest leadership teams in all of professional sports. They have been tremendous leaders for this organization on and off the field, and we look forward to their continued success in the years ahead."
The Chiefs are good. The Chiefs win. So extending their leadership is a no-brainer. Good for these fellas for doing the work and seeing the results on and off the field.
Don't mess around with success and it will continue.

Pittsburgh has added Wilson and Fields, but could they still draft a QB?
Pittsburgh has drastically upgraded their QB room. From Mitch Trubisky and Kenny Pickett to Russ Wilson and Justin Fields...but are they done?
Steelers GM Omar Khan admitted in a press conference that they may be interested in adding more talent to the QB position if the draft falls that way.
“I’d say it’s not realistic that we'd take a quarterback in Round One, if that’s what you’re asking, no,” Khan said. “There’s some good players and I wouldn’t close the door on anything. If there’s an opportunity to improve that room, we’ll look at it, but like you said, we’ve got three guys who are on one-year deals and we have to be open to it.”
Does it sound like they are prepared to add one of the top 4 or 5 QBs? No. Will they look at what is left as the draft gets towards its completion?
Possibly.
The headline isn't "The Steelers will def add a QB early in the draft." The headline is "The Steelers know they have upgraded their QB room but they aren't closing the door on continuing to add to it."
Why is that important? Bc everyone continues to wonder - is Wilson or Fields really the long-term guy in Pittsburgh? It sounds like the Steelers think so, but they not be totally sold.

San Francisco GM Lynch gives update on where they stand with WR Aiyuk
San Fran GM John Lynch spoke to the media and shared a lot of good insight, but more than anything, he shared the teams stance on WR Brandon Aiyuk, which has sorta been a trade rumor.
"With B.A., I’ve communicated on many occasions: Our wish is that he’s here as part of the Niners for the rest of his career," Lynch said about Aiyuk's uncertain future, as shared by Danny Emerman of the Bay Area News Group and David Bonilla of 49ers WebZone. "We’re working through that."
Will he get traded during the draft?
"I wouldn’t anticipate that," Lynch responded. Lynch did, however, acknowledge he's received calls from interested teams about Aiyuk's services.
Aiyuk has been a trade prospective due to him entering the final year of his rookie contract and his amazing performance of late.
He had 7 TDs and 75 receptions as the squad went to the Super Bowl last season.
He would be huge addition to many teams in need of a WR, but it appears he isn't going anywhere.

Matt Ryan officially retires as a Falcon
Matt Ryan had a heckuva NFL career, one that officially ended on Monday as he retired Falcon.
"I wanted nothing else as a kid other than to play professional sports. In April of 2008, (the Falcons) gave me that opportunity. ... I'll certainly always be pulling for Atlanta."
Ryan was one of the best. The #3 pick in 2008 was immediately a starter.
He played in 234 games, had 381 TDs and went to the Super Bowl in 2018.
Ryan will be available for the Hall of Fame in 2028 and should create quite the debate. He has had amazing numbers, which will probably allow him to get in.

Denver releases new jerseys that look Madden-esque
The Broncos released new jerseys and that are....boring.
Owning one of the best "retro" logos, and continuing to go with their new Bronco logo is a shame.
They did announce the 1977 jerseys will be back occasionally - they are below - and should be their full time jerseys.
Perfect orange jersey, the old school D logo with the Bronco - just perfect.
The new ones? Eh
Also listed below - the are just boring. They look exactly what you would make on Madden when you relocate the Jaguars to London or some other city with a huge population.
Random stripes on the shoulder, kinda ugly numbers - just eh.
What do you think? Like them or nah?

The Zach Wilson experience is finally over in NYC
Zach Wilson is finally out of New York. Set up to not exactly succeed with a team that wasn't really ready to win, Wilson started off eh and it just got worse.
Wilson was traded today to Denver, as well as some draft pick swaps and the Jets will pay for some of the $5.5 Million salary he is owed in 2024.
Wilson was the former #2 pick and it just never worked. He is a decent QB, but should never have been drafted so high.
The fresh start should give him a new opportunity to see if he can really be a NFL QB - now he has Sean Payton to help with his development.
The Broncos now have Wilson, Jarrett Stidham and Ben DiNucci in their QB room. I would be shocked if they don't find a QB somewhere in the draft.
But as it stands now, Wilson might get a chance to start.
